The House of Representatives' chief tax-writing committee, with jurisdiction over taxes, tariffs, Social Security, parts of Medicare and other revenue matters. Because the Constitution requires revenue bills to originate in the House, it is among the most powerful committees in Congress.
Example: The W&M markup of the tax package is expected to run late into the night.
First formed in 1789 and made a standing committee in 1802. Its Senate counterpart is the Finance Committee. Under section 6103 of the tax code its chair may request any taxpayer's return, a power used to obtain a former president's tax returns in 2022.
2. College of William & Mary

Public university in Williamsburg, Virginia, chartered in 1693 by King William III and Queen Mary II, the second-oldest institution of higher education in the US. The Phi Beta Kappa honor society was founded there in 1776.
Example: Thomas Jefferson studied law at W&M under George Wythe.
The school calls itself "William & Mary". Its Wren Building is the oldest academic building in continuous use in the US. Despite the "college" name, it offers graduate degrees, including law and business.
