UNICOM stands for Universal communications, an aviation abbreviation.

Nongovernment air-ground radio station at an airport, usually run by the FBO or airport operator, that gives pilots information such as the favored runway, fuel availability and ground transportation. UNICOM provides advisory information only and cannot issue ATC clearances.

Example: Calling UNICOM, the pilot asked whether the self-serve fuel pump was working before landing.

Usage notes

At many small airports the UNICOM and CTAF frequencies are the same. Typical assignments include 122.7, 122.725, 122.8, 122.975, 123.0, 123.05 and 123.075 MHz. Pilots usually address the station by airport name followed by "UNICOM" when requesting an airport advisory or a radio check.
