TTTS stands for Twin-twin transfusion syndrome, an obstetrics & gynecology abbreviation.

Complication of identical twins sharing one placenta (monochorionic), in which abnormal blood vessel connections shunt blood from one twin (the donor) to the other (the recipient). The donor develops low amniotic fluid and the recipient excess fluid and heart strain.

Example: Monochorionic twins at 19 weeks, Quintero stage II TTTS; refer for fetoscopic laser ablation.

Usage notes

TTTS affects roughly 10–15 percent of monochorionic-diamniotic twin pregnancies, which are scanned every two weeks from 16 weeks to detect it. The Quintero system stages severity from I to V. Fetoscopic laser ablation of the connecting vessels is the preferred treatment for advanced stages.
