1. TAP Air Portugal

Transportation & Travel · Airline Code Abbreviations

Portugal's national airline, based in Lisbon and a member of Star Alliance. It is a leading airline between Europe and Brazil and offers free stopovers in Lisbon or Porto.

Example: TP 202 from Newark to Lisbon connects to TP 1350 for Madeira.

ICAO code TAP; callsign "Air Portugal." The initials come from Transportes Aéreos Portugueses, its founding name in 1945. The Portuguese government regained control during the COVID-19 crisis and has pursued a sale.

2. Total protein

Medical · Laboratory Test Abbreviations

Combined concentration of albumin and globulins in serum, normally about 6.0 to 8.3 g/dL and reported on every comprehensive metabolic panel. A large gap between total protein and albumin suggests excess globulins from multiple myeloma, chronic infection such as HIV or hepatitis C, or autoimmune disease.

Example: TP 10.2 with albumin 3.1: globulin gap of 7.1, so SPEP and free light chains sent.

Globulin is not usually measured directly but calculated as total protein minus albumin; a gap above about 4 g/dL is a common trigger for protein electrophoresis. The albumin-to-globulin (A/G) ratio, normally above 1, is printed on some reports. Dehydration raises total protein, while overhydration and liver failure lower it.

3. Take profit

Business & Finance · Stock Market & Investing Abbreviations

Order or price target at which a trader closes a winning position to lock in gains, usually set as a limit order when the trade is opened. Trade plans and social-media trading signals list TP levels alongside entry and stop-loss prices.

Example: Entry at $41.20, TP1 at $44, TP2 at $47, stop below $39.

Setups often list several targets (TP1, TP2) and close part of the position at each. Traders describe the distance to TP relative to the distance to the stop-loss as the risk-reward ratio. In sell-side research, the more formal counterpart is the analyst's price target.

4. Teleport

Texting & Internet Slang · Gaming Slang Abbreviations

Instant travel to another location in a game through spells, items, waypoints, portals or server commands. Used as a noun and a verb, as in "tp to base" or "can someone tp me?"

Example: TP back to town and restock potions before the next floor.

Minecraft's /tp command lets server operators move players anywhere, and "tpa" plugins let players request teleports to friends. In League of Legends, Teleport is a summoner spell used to join distant fights. Outside games, TP is everyday slang for toilet paper.
