TCC stands for Transitional cell carcinoma, a nephrology & urology abbreviation.
Older name for urothelial carcinoma, the cancer that arises from the transitional epithelium lining the bladder and upper urinary tract. It still appears in older pathology reports, patient materials and some insurance coding.
Example: Pathology from 2009: low-grade papillary TCC of bladder, no invasion.
Usage notes
"Transitional" describes the stretchy epithelium that changes shape as the bladder fills. The World Health Organization classification uses "urothelial carcinoma" instead. Occupational exposure to aromatic amines in dye and rubber industries was one of the first recognized causes of this cancer.
