sinh stands for Hyperbolic sine, a math abbreviation.
Hyperbolic function defined as (e^x − e^−x)/2, an analog of sine for the hyperbola x² − y² = 1 rather than the circle. It appears in differential equations, special relativity and engineering.
Example: The cable's sag is computed with sinh(x/a), as derived in the catenary problem.
Usage notes
Pronounced "sinch" or "shine". Vincenzo Riccati introduced hyperbolic functions in the 1760s, and Johann Heinrich Lambert developed them further. Unlike sin, sinh is not periodic and grows exponentially. Its derivative is cosh x.
