SDK stands for Software development kit, a programming abbreviation.

A bundle of tools needed to build software for a specific platform or service, typically including libraries, documentation, code samples, compilers or emulators and debugging tools. Apple's iOS SDK, the Android SDK and cloud providers' SDKs are common examples.

Example: Install the payment provider's SDK with npm and initialize it with your publishable key.

Usage notes

An SDK usually wraps one or more APIs, handling authentication, retries and data formats so developers write less code. Analytics and advertising SDKs embedded in mobile apps have drawn privacy scrutiny because they can collect user data. Some kits keep "development kit" in their names, such as the Java Development Kit (JDK).
