SDC stands for Special day class, a K-12 education abbreviation.
California special education placement in which students with more intensive needs spend the majority of the school day in a separate classroom taught by a special education teacher. Students may join general education peers for some subjects, lunch and electives.
Example: The IEP team discussed moving her from RSP to an SDC for language arts and math.
Usage notes
Placement in an SDC must be justified under the least restrictive environment requirement. Classes are smaller, often with aides. Other states call similar settings self-contained classrooms.
