Civil rights organization founded by Black ministers in 1957, with Martin Luther King Jr. as its first president, to coordinate nonviolent protests against segregation.
Example: SCLC organizers led the 1963 Birmingham campaign against segregated businesses.
It played central roles in the Birmingham campaign, the 1963 March on Washington and the 1965 Selma voting rights marches. Ralph Abernathy succeeded King after his assassination in 1968. It continues to operate, though with a lower profile than during the 1960s.
2. Small cell lung cancer

Aggressive neuroendocrine lung cancer making up about 13 to 15 percent of lung cancers, almost always linked to heavy smoking. It grows and spreads quickly, so most patients have widespread disease at diagnosis.
Example: Extensive-stage SCLC with brain mets; carboplatin-etoposide plus atezolizumab started.
Staging traditionally divides disease into limited (confined to one side of the chest and treatable with one radiation field) and extensive. SCLC initially responds well to platinum-etoposide chemotherapy and radiation, but relapse is common; adding immunotherapy modestly improved survival, and the bispecific T-cell engager tarlatamab gained accelerated approval for previously treated disease. Paraneoplastic syndromes such as SIADH and Lambert-Eaton syndrome are characteristic.
