International press freedom organization, known in French as Reporters sans frontières, that defends journalists, documents attacks and imprisonment and publishes the annual World Press Freedom Index.
Example: The country fell 20 places in the RSF World Press Freedom Index this year.
Founded in 1985 in Montpellier, France, it has consultative status at the United Nations. Its index ranks 180 countries and territories on media freedom. It campaigns for the release of jailed journalists and provides grants and safety training to reporters.
