SCCs stands for Standard contractual clauses, a contract abbreviation.
Model contract terms adopted by the European Commission that allow personal data to be transferred from the EU to countries without an adequate level of data protection. Parties incorporate the clauses into their contracts without altering them, choosing the module that fits their roles.
Example: Our DPA incorporates the 2021 SCCs, Module Two, for transfers from EU customers to our US servers.
Usage notes
The Commission adopted modernized SCCs in June 2021, with modules for controller-to-controller, controller-to-processor, processor-to-processor and processor-to-controller transfers. After the Schrems II ruling (2020), exporters must also assess the destination country's laws in a transfer impact assessment. The UK uses its own International Data Transfer Agreement or an addendum to the EU clauses.
