1. Senior Airman
Military · US Air Force and Space Force Rank Abbreviations
Air Force enlisted rank at pay grade E-4, three chevrons around a star. Senior airmen are skilled journeymen in their specialty and frequently supervise newer airmen, but they are not yet noncommissioned officers.
Example: SrA Diaz was named the squadron's airman of the quarter for leading the aircraft generation effort.
The rank dates from 1976. Until 1991 the Air Force also had a Sergeant rank at E-4 that carried NCO status; its elimination left SrA as the only E-4 title. Senior airmen must complete Airman Leadership School before promotion to staff sergeant. The Space Force equivalent is Specialist 4.
2. Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)
Law & Legal · Legal Profession Abbreviations
Independent regulator of solicitors and law firms in England and Wales that sets standards, authorizes firms, investigates misconduct and runs the Solicitors Qualifying Examination. It took that name in 2007 as the regulatory arm separated from the Law Society.
Example: The SRA fined the firm for failing to carry out proper anti-money-laundering checks.
Serious cases are prosecuted before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, which can strike solicitors off the roll. The SRA's Standards and Regulations replaced its earlier Code of Conduct in November 2019. Barristers are regulated separately by the Bar Standards Board. In US research contracts, SRA means sponsored research agreement.
3. Sponsored research agreement (SRA)
Law & Legal · Contract Abbreviations
Contract under which a company funds research at a university or research institute, specifying the project, budget, reporting, publication rights and ownership or licensing of resulting intellectual property. Universities usually keep ownership and grant the sponsor an option to license.
Example: The company's SRA funds two postdocs for three years and gives it a six-month option on any patents.
Universities insist on the right to publish results after a short review period that lets the sponsor seek patents or remove its confidential information. Federal tax rules on private use of tax-exempt-financed facilities shape the IP terms universities can offer. In England and Wales, SRA means the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
