CategoriesMedical

RCRI stands for Revised Cardiac Risk Index, an anesthesia abbreviation.

Six-factor tool estimating the risk of major cardiac complications after noncardiac surgery: high-risk surgery, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cerebrovascular disease, insulin-treated diabetes and creatinine above 2.0 mg/dL, each scoring one point.

Example: RCRI 1 with good functional capacity: proceed to surgery without stress testing.

Usage notes

Published by Thomas Lee and colleagues in 1999 and also called the Lee index. US guidelines combine the RCRI or the NSQIP calculator with functional capacity to decide whether further cardiac testing is needed. Patients who can climb two flights of stairs, roughly 4 metabolic equivalents, usually need no additional testing.
