PRC stands for People's Republic of China, a country name abbreviation.
Mainland China's formal name, proclaimed by Mao Zedong in Beijing on October 1, 1949, after the Communist victory in the civil war. PRC is the standard abbreviation in diplomacy, law and scholarship, especially where Taiwan's Republic of China must be distinguished.
