Feedback circuit that locks the frequency and phase of an internal oscillator to a reference signal. PLLs multiply clock frequencies inside processors, recover clocks from data streams, demodulate FM and synthesize stable frequencies in radios and phones.
Example: An on-chip PLL multiplies the 25 MHz crystal frequency to the 1.5 GHz CPU clock.
French engineer Henri de Bellescize published the principle in 1932 for synchronous radio reception. A basic PLL contains a phase detector, a loop filter and a voltage-controlled oscillator. Phase noise and lock time are key specifications in communications systems.
2. Premier Lacrosse League

Professional field lacrosse league in North America, playing a summer season that ends with a championship weekend in September. Since 2024 its eight teams have carried city or regional names, after years of operating as a touring league.
Example: The midfielder scored twice in the PLL championship game on ESPN.
Founded in 2018 by lacrosse star Paul Rabil and his brother Mike, the PLL played its first season in 2019 and absorbed the older Major League Lacrosse in 2020. It uses a 52-second shot clock and a two-point arc. Box lacrosse, played indoors, has its own league, the National Lacrosse League (NLL).
