PASG stands for Pneumatic anti-shock garment, an emergency medicine abbreviation.
Inflatable trousers placed around the legs and abdomen to compress them, once used by EMS to treat shock and stabilize pelvic fractures. Also called MAST (military anti-shock trousers).
Example: Older protocol listed PASG for pelvic instability with hypotension.
Usage notes
Studies in the 1980s and 1990s showed no survival benefit in most trauma, so the device has largely disappeared from civilian EMS. Pelvic binders are now preferred for pelvic fractures. A non-pneumatic anti-shock garment is used in some low-resource settings for postpartum hemorrhage.
