OTel stands for OpenTelemetry, a cloud computing abbreviation.
An open-source standard and set of tools for collecting telemetry, namely traces, metrics and logs, from applications in a vendor-neutral way, so the same instrumentation can feed any monitoring backend.
Example: Instrument the services with OTel once, then switch observability vendors without changing code.
Usage notes
Formed in 2019 by merging the OpenTracing and OpenCensus projects, it is one of the most active Cloud Native Computing Foundation projects. Major vendors and the cloud providers accept its data. The OpenTelemetry Collector receives, processes and exports telemetry between systems.
