.org stands for Organization (top-level domain), an Internet & web abbreviation.
A generic top-level domain originally meant for noncommercial organizations, such as charities, open-source projects and community groups, but open to anyone without eligibility checks. Wikipedia and Mozilla use it.
Example: Donations go through the foundation's .org site, not the merchandise store.
Usage notes
One of the TLDs created in 1985. Since 2003 it has been run by the Public Interest Registry, a subsidiary of the Internet Society; a planned sale of the registry to a private equity firm was blocked by ICANN in 2020 after protests from nonprofits. A .org address does not prove that a site belongs to a charity.
