OPCON stands for Operational control, a military term abbreviation.
Command authority to organize and employ assigned forces, assign tasks and give direction needed to accomplish a mission, delegable by a combatant commander to subordinate commanders.
Example: The brigade is OPCON to the Marine expeditionary force for the duration of the exercise.
Usage notes
OPCON does not normally include authority over logistics, administration or discipline. In South Korea, transferring wartime OPCON of Korean forces from the US-led Combined Forces Command to a Korean commander has been debated for decades. Pronounced "OP-con."
