Num. stands for Numbers, a Bible book abbreviation.
Fourth book of the Torah, 36 chapters, recounting two censuses of the Israelites and their forty years of wandering in the wilderness between Sinai and the plains of Moab. It contains the priestly blessing "The Lord bless thee, and keep thee" in chapter 6.
Example: The benediction from Num. 6:24–26 closed the service.
Usage notes
SBL uses Num, and Catholic and Chicago short forms use Nm. Context distinguishes it from "No." or "num." meaning number. The Hebrew name, Bemidbar, means "in the wilderness", which describes its content better than the English title taken from the Greek Septuagint.
