NUC stands for Next Unit of Computing, a computer hardware abbreviation.
Line of very small desktop computers, roughly 4 by 4 inches, introduced by Intel in 2013 and sold as complete systems or barebones kits. They are used as office PCs, home servers, media players and digital signage.
Example: The front desk runs on a NUC mounted behind the monitor.
Usage notes
Intel exited the NUC business in 2023 and licensed the brand and designs to ASUS, which continues to sell NUC models. Many other makers sell similar mini PCs. Barebones kits ship without memory, storage or an operating system. The NUC helped popularize the mini-PC category as a quiet, low-power alternative to towers.
