1. No later than
Writing & Everyday · Email and Office Abbreviations · also used in the military
Sets a firm deadline, meaning a task must be done on or before the stated time. The phrasing is common in military, government, legal and project-management documents.
Example: Completed applications must be submitted NLT 1700 on 30 April to be considered.
NLT is stricter in tone than "by" and leaves little room for interpretation. Military orders and US federal notices pair it with 24-hour times. Its counterpart NET means "no earlier than," familiar from space launch schedules. Spelling it out on first use helps readers outside these fields.
2. New Living Translation
Religion · Religious Term Abbreviations
Dynamic-equivalence English translation published by Tyndale House in 1996, created by about 90 scholars as a full translation that replaced Kenneth Taylor's paraphrase, The Living Bible. It aims for natural, easy-to-read contemporary English.
Example: The youth group uses the NLT because teenagers find it easier to understand.
Revised editions followed in 2004, 2007 and 2015. Its approach translates thoughts rather than word for word, so it differs from more literal versions in many verses. Tyndale House was founded by Taylor to publish The Living Bible.
