NJPS stands for New Jewish Publication Society Tanakh, a religious term abbreviation.
English translation of the Hebrew Bible by the Jewish Publication Society, completed in 1985 after nearly three decades of work and based on the Masoretic Text. It is the most widely used English Jewish Bible.

Usage notes
It is also called the JPS Tanakh or NJV. The book order follows the Jewish canon: Torah, Prophets and Writings. A gender-sensitive adaptation of the translation has also been published.
