MPAS stands for Master of Physician Assistant Studies, a degree abbreviation.
Graduate degree, typically 24 to 36 months, that prepares physician assistants (also called physician associates) through didactic coursework followed by about a year of clinical rotations. Graduates of programs accredited by ARC-PA take the PANCE certification exam.
Example: Requirements: MPAS from an ARC-PA accredited program and current NCCPA certification.
Usage notes
Programs also award the MSPAS, MMS or MHS for the same preparation; the title varies by school. Applicants typically need substantial hands-on patient care hours before admission. A doctoral degree for PAs exists but is not required for practice.
