MLitt stands for Master of Letters, a degree abbreviation.
Postgraduate degree in the humanities awarded mainly by Scottish and some Irish and English universities, such as St Andrews, Glasgow and Aberdeen. It is usually a one-year taught degree, though some universities award it as a research degree.
Example: She took the MLitt in Scottish history at St Andrews before moving to archival work.
Usage notes
Written M.Litt. In Scotland the MLitt is used for taught postgraduate arts degrees partly because the MA is already the undergraduate degree. The Latin original is Magister Litterarum. The higher doctorate in the same tradition is the DLitt.
