Mon stands for Monday, a day of the week abbreviation.
The day after Sunday and the first day of the working week in most countries. The name comes from Old English Monandaeg, "moon's day", a translation of Latin dies Lunae, which survives in French lundi and Spanish lunes.
Example: Hours: Mon to Fri 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed Sat and Sun.
Usage notes
ISO 8601 numbers Monday as day 1, and most European calendars start the week on Monday, while US calendars traditionally start on Sunday. AP style spells out days of the week in text and uses three-letter forms without periods (Mon) only in tables. Several US federal holidays, including Memorial Day and Labor Day, are fixed to Mondays.
