Eight-wheeled armored vehicle used by the Marine Corps for reconnaissance, especially the LAV-25 with a 25mm cannon, and by Canada and other countries in many versions.
Example: Marine LAVs screened the division's flank during the advance to Baghdad.
Usage notes
The LAV family is derived from the Swiss MOWAG Piranha and built in Canada. The Army's Stryker is a close relative. Marine light armored reconnaissance battalions operate the LAV-25. Variants include anti-tank, mortar, logistics and command versions.
