CategoriesMedical

LABA/LAMA stands for Long-acting beta-agonist and long-acting muscarinic antagonist combination, a drug class abbreviation.

Dual long-acting bronchodilator inhalers for COPD, such as umeclidinium/vilanterol (Anoro), tiotropium/olodaterol (Stiolto) and glycopyrrolate/formoterol (Bevespi). Combining two bronchodilator mechanisms improves breathing more than either alone.

Example: COPD GOLD group E: LABA/LAMA, add ICS if eosinophils at least 300.

Usage notes

GOLD reports recommend LABA/LAMA as initial maintenance for many symptomatic COPD patients. Adding an inhaled steroid creates "triple therapy" (Trelegy, Breztri), used when exacerbations continue and blood eosinophils are high. These combinations are not used without an ICS in asthma.
