KFOR stands for Kosovo Force, a military unit and organization abbreviation.
NATO-led peacekeeping force in Kosovo, deployed in June 1999 after the NATO air campaign against Yugoslavia, to maintain a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities.
Example: KFOR troops reinforced the northern border crossing after clashes overnight.
Usage notes
KFOR operates under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and remains one of NATO's longest-running missions. US Army units, many from the National Guard, have rotated through Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo since 1999. The force was much larger at the start of the mission than it is today.
