JEE stands for Joint Entrance Examination, a standardized test abbreviation.
Two-stage engineering entrance exam in India: JEE Main, run by the National Testing Agency for admission to NITs and many other colleges, and JEE Advanced, run by the IITs for top JEE Main scorers seeking IIT seats. More than a million students take JEE Main each year.
Example: He cleared JEE Advanced with an all-India rank of 512 and chose computer science at IIT Bombay.
Usage notes
JEE Main is held in two sessions, in January and April, and a candidate's better score counts. Only about 250,000 top JEE Main performers qualify to attempt JEE Advanced. Coaching hubs such as Kota, Rajasthan, have grown into a large industry around the exam.
