CategoriesTransportation & Travel

FR-44 stands for FR-44 certificate of financial responsibility, a driving abbreviation also used in business.

Form used in Florida and Virginia that certifies a driver convicted of DUI or similar offenses carries higher-than-normal liability insurance limits. It is more demanding than the SR-22 used elsewhere.

Example: Florida requires an FR-44 with 100/300/50 liability limits after a DUI conviction.

Usage notes

Florida's FR-44 requires liability coverage of at least $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident and $50,000 for property damage, far above the state's normal minimums. Virginia uses FR-44 with its own required limits. Coverage usually must be maintained for three years.
