1. Financial Conduct Authority
Government & Politics · UK Government Abbreviations
UK regulator for the conduct of financial services firms and markets, which authorizes firms, protects consumers, polices market abuse and keeps the Financial Services Register. It regulates tens of thousands of firms.
Example: Check the FCA register to make sure the investment firm is authorized.
It replaced the Financial Services Authority in April 2013, sharing responsibility with the Prudential Regulation Authority. Its Consumer Duty, in force from 2023, requires firms to deliver good outcomes for customers. It also oversees redress schemes, such as the review of car finance commission arrangements.
2. Free Carrier
Business & Finance · Logistics, Supply Chain & Trade Abbreviations
Seller delivers the goods, cleared for export, to a carrier or person nominated by the buyer at a named place: if that place is the seller's premises, the seller loads them; elsewhere they are delivered ready for unloading. Risk passes to the buyer on delivery.
Example: We sell FCA Rotterdam terminal, and the buyer's forwarder takes it from there.
FCA works for all transport modes and is the ICC's recommended alternative to FOB for container shipments, which are handed over at a terminal rather than placed on board a ship. Incoterms 2020 added an option for the buyer to instruct its carrier to issue an on-board bill of lading to the seller, which helps letter-of-credit transactions.
