EXW stands for Ex Works, a logistics, supply chain & trade abbreviation.
Incoterms rule placing the least obligation on the seller, who simply makes the goods available at its own premises or another named place, not loaded onto any vehicle and not cleared for export. The buyer bears all costs and risks from that point.
Example: Prices are quoted EXW our Shenzhen factory, so your forwarder handles everything.
Usage notes
Because the seller has no duty to load or to clear exports, EXW can cause problems when the buyer cannot legally act as exporter in the seller's country; the ICC suggests FCA for many such cases. EXW is suited to domestic trade or buyers with strong local logistics. Risk passes when goods are placed at the buyer's disposal.
