FAS stands for Free Alongside Ship, a logistics, supply chain & trade abbreviation.

Sea and inland waterway rule in which the seller delivers the goods, cleared for export, alongside the vessel nominated by the buyer at the named port, for example on the quay or a barge. Risk passes once the goods are alongside.

Example: The steel beams were sold FAS Houston and loaded by the buyer's stevedores.

Usage notes

FAS is mainly used for bulk and breakbulk cargo such as grain, timber or heavy machinery, rather than containers.
