FBC stands for Full blood count, a laboratory test abbreviation.

British, Irish, Australian and New Zealand name for the complete blood count, the routine test of red cells, white cells, hemoglobin and platelets. Results include the same indices used in American labs, though hemoglobin is usually reported in grams per liter rather than grams per deciliter.

Example: GP requested an FBC, U&E and LFTs ahead of the outpatient appointment.

Usage notes

An American reader seeing FBC can treat it as identical to a CBC. Unit differences matter: an FBC hemoglobin of 135 g/L equals 13.5 g/dL. Related UK shorthand includes U&E (urea and electrolytes, broadly the British counterpart of a basic metabolic panel) and LFTs for liver function tests.
