1. Expression of interest
Business & Finance · Management & Strategy Abbreviations
Short submission in which a potential supplier, partner or buyer signals interest in an opportunity before a formal tender or sale process begins. Organizations use EOIs to gauge market appetite and build a shortlist; in property and business sales, an EOI campaign may also invite non-binding indicative offers.
Example: Contractors wishing to be considered for the stadium project must lodge an EOI by 30 September.
Common in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and international development procurement. An EOI is generally non-binding on both sides. In Australian and New Zealand skilled-migration systems, an EOI is also the first step a would-be migrant submits, a separate usage outside business.
2. Evidence of insurance
Business & Finance · Insurance Abbreviations
Document confirming that property insurance is in force, issued to a mortgage lender or landlord, typically on ACORD forms for residential or commercial property.
Example: The lender wants an EOI showing it as mortgagee before funding the loan.
Unlike a certificate of insurance for liability, an EOI is usually requested by lenders to confirm the collateral is protected. In management, EOI means expression of interest.
