eMAR stands for Electronic medication administration record, a nursing abbreviation.

Digital version of the MAR built into an electronic health record, showing due, overdue and PRN medications and recording administration by scanning or electronic signature. It updates instantly when a prescriber changes an order.

Example: Pain reassessment due on eMAR 30 minutes after IV hydromorphone.

Usage notes

An eMAR can display hold parameters, required vital signs and recent lab values beside each dose. Overdue doses are highlighted for the charge nurse. Combined with barcode scanning it creates a closed loop from prescribing through pharmacy to the bedside, a common hospital safety goal.
