EHB stands for Essential health benefits, a health insurance abbreviation.
Ten categories of services that ACA-compliant individual and small-group plans must cover: outpatient care, emergency services, hospitalization, maternity and newborn care, mental health and substance use services, prescription drugs, rehabilitative and habilitative services, laboratory services, preventive and wellness care, and pediatric services including dental and vision.
Example: Maternity care is an EHB, so the marketplace plan must cover the delivery.
Usage notes
Each state defines the details through a benchmark plan. Plans cannot place annual or lifetime dollar limits on EHB. Large-group and self-funded plans need not cover every EHB category but cannot set dollar limits on the EHB they do cover.
