1. Dolutegravir

Medical · Drug Abbreviations

Integrase inhibitor that is a cornerstone of modern HIV treatment, with a high barrier to resistance and once-daily dosing. The WHO has recommended dolutegravir-based regimens as preferred first-line therapy since 2019.

Example: Start DTG 50 mg daily plus TAF/FTC; avoid taking with antacids.

A 2018 signal of neural tube defects in babies exposed at conception, from the Tsepamo study in Botswana, led to temporary restrictions; later data showed the risk was much smaller, and dolutegravir is now recommended in pregnancy. Polyvalent cations such as calcium, iron and magnesium reduce its absorption.

2. Date-time group

Military · Military Term Abbreviations

Standard military format for writing a date and time, as six digits for day, hour and minutes followed by a time-zone letter, month and year, such as 041530ZNOV26 for 15:30 Zulu time on 4 November 2026.

Example: Reference message DTG 120800ZMAR26 for the updated deployment timeline.

The letter Z stands for Zulu time, equivalent to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Military messages, orders and logs use DTGs to avoid confusion across time zones. Local time is often written with the letter for the local zone, such as R for US Eastern Standard Time.
