1. Hamad International Airport

Transportation & Travel · Airport Code Abbreviations

Hub of Qatar Airways, located on reclaimed land in Doha. It opened in 2014 to replace the cramped Doha International Airport, and it is frequently ranked among the world's best airports.

Example: Took a photo with the giant yellow teddy bear during my DOH layover.

ICAO code OTHH. Named for the former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The terminal's centerpiece is "Lamp Bear," a 23-foot bronze teddy bear sculpture by Swiss artist Urs Fischer. Expansion ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup added an indoor tropical garden.

2. DNS over HTTPS (DoH)

Technology & Computing · Networking Abbreviations

Sends DNS lookups inside encrypted HTTPS connections, usually on port 443, so ISPs and others on the network cannot see or tamper with the domains a user looks up. Firefox, Chrome, Edge and major operating systems support it.

Example: Firefox uses DoH by default for US users, sending lookups to a trusted resolver.

Standardized as RFC 8484 in 2018, and Mozilla turned it on by default for US Firefox users in 2020. Because DoH traffic looks like ordinary web traffic, it is harder to block than DNS over TLS, which pleases privacy advocates but frustrates administrators who rely on DNS filtering. The resolver itself still sees every query.

3. Days on hand

Business & Finance · Logistics, Supply Chain & Trade Abbreviations

Number of days current inventory would last at the average rate of usage or sales, calculated as on-hand quantity divided by average daily demand.

Example: We're carrying 45 DOH of packaging, way above our 20-day target.

Also called days of inventory or days of supply. In government, DOH often means department of health.
