DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling, a computer hardware abbreviation.
Nvidia technology for GeForce RTX graphics cards that renders games at a lower resolution and uses an AI model running on the card's Tensor cores to upscale the image, raising frame rates with little loss of quality. Newer versions also generate extra frames.
Example: Turn on DLSS Quality mode to get 4K at playable frame rates with ray tracing on.
Usage notes
DLSS debuted with the RTX 20 series in 2018; DLSS 2 (2020) became widely praised, DLSS 3 (2022) added frame generation for RTX 40 cards and DLSS 4 (2025) introduced multi-frame generation, creating up to three AI frames per rendered frame on RTX 50 cards. Generated frames improve smoothness but not input responsiveness. It works only in games that integrate it.
