DIMM stands for Dual inline memory module, a computer hardware abbreviation.
Standard full-size memory stick for desktop PCs and servers, a circuit board carrying DRAM chips that plugs into a motherboard slot. DDR4 and DDR5 DIMMs have 288 pins but different notch positions.
Example: The motherboard has four DIMM slots supporting up to 192 GB of DDR5.
Usage notes
"Dual inline" means the contacts on each side carry separate signals, unlike older SIMMs (single inline memory modules), whose two sides were connected. Server variants include registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) modules, which consumer boards do not accept. For dual-channel operation, two-slot setups usually populate the second and fourth slots, as marked in motherboard manuals.
