CRPP stands for Closed reduction and percutaneous pinning, a musculoskeletal & rheumatology abbreviation.

Fracture treatment in which bone fragments are realigned without opening the skin, then held with smooth wires (K-wires) inserted through small punctures under X-ray guidance. It is the standard treatment for displaced supracondylar humerus fractures in children.

Example: Gartland type III supracondylar fracture; CRPP with two lateral pins, cast and recheck in 1 week.

Usage notes

The pins usually stay in for three to four weeks and are pulled in clinic without anesthesia. Checking the radial pulse and nerve function before and after surgery is essential because nearby arteries and nerves can be injured. K-wires are named after Martin Kirschner, who introduced them in 1909.
