CQRS stands for Command Query Responsibility Segregation, a programming abbreviation.
An architecture pattern that separates the model for updating data (commands) from the model for reading it (queries), so each can be optimized and scaled independently, often with separate databases.
Example: Reads come from a denormalized view updated by events; writes go through the CQRS command side.
Usage notes
Named by Greg Young around 2010, building on Bertrand Meyer's command-query separation principle for methods. It is frequently combined with event sourcing and domain-driven design. Martin Fowler cautions that it adds significant complexity and suits only parts of some systems.
