CGL stands for Commercial general liability, an insurance abbreviation.
Standard business liability policy form, published by the Insurance Services Office, that most US insurers use for general liability coverage. It is divided into Coverage A (bodily injury and property damage), Coverage B (personal and advertising injury) and Coverage C (medical payments).
Example: The subcontract requires CGL with the general contractor named as additional insured.
Usage notes
The ISO occurrence form, CG 00 01, covers injuries that occur during the policy period whenever the claim is filed; a claims-made version, CG 00 02, covers claims made during the policy period. Standard exclusions include expected or intended injury, pollution, professional services, auto and employee injuries.
