CDW stands for Collision damage waiver, an insurance abbreviation.
Optional rental car product in which the rental company agrees not to hold the renter responsible for damage to the vehicle, technically a waiver rather than insurance. A loss damage waiver (LDW) also covers theft.
Example: I declined the CDW because my credit card covers rental car damage.
Usage notes
Many credit cards and personal auto policies already cover rental cars, so renters check before buying. Rental counters also offer supplemental liability insurance (SLI) and personal accident insurance (PAI).
