CBRS stands for Citizens Broadband Radio Service, a telecom abbreviation.

US shared spectrum band from 3.55 to 3.7 GHz, managed by a three-tier system that protects incumbent Navy radar while allowing licensed and unlicensed use for 4G and 5G networks.

Example: The factory runs its own private 5G network on CBRS spectrum.

Usage notes

The FCC created CBRS in 2015, and an automated Spectrum Access System assigns frequencies dynamically. Priority Access Licenses were auctioned in 2020 for about 4.6 billion dollars, while General Authorized Access is open to anyone with certified equipment. CBRS has enabled private wireless networks for factories, campuses and stadiums.
