DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting, a telecom abbreviation.

Digital radio standard that transmits many stations in a single multiplex, offering clearer sound without hiss, station names and text information on the display. It is widespread in the UK, Norway, Germany and Australia.

Example: The new car has a DAB radio, so we can pick up stations that aren't on FM.

Usage notes

DAB grew out of the European Eureka 147 research project, and the BBC launched regular DAB broadcasts in 1995. DAB+, introduced in 2006, uses the more efficient HE-AAC audio codec and has replaced the original format in most countries. The United States uses a different system, HD Radio, which adds digital signals alongside FM and AM.
