Shorthand for biopsy, the removal of tissue for examination under a microscope. It appears in plans, pathology requests and history entries.
Example: Breast mass: US-guided core Bx scheduled; path results in 3 to 5 days.
Types include needle, core, punch, shave, excisional and incisional biopsies. "Bx-proven" means confirmed by tissue diagnosis, the gold standard for most cancers. Results are reported by a pathologist and should be tracked so they are not missed after discharge.
2. Base exchange (BX)

Retail store on an Air Force or Space Force base, operated by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, offering tax-free shopping to service members, retirees and families.
Example: The BX at Ramstein has a food court bigger than most mall food courts.
The BX is the Air Force counterpart to the Army's PX. Since 2017 honorably discharged veterans have been allowed to shop online at military exchanges, and in-store access was later expanded to certain other veterans.
