BVA stands for Board of Veterans' Appeals, a veteran abbreviation.
Body within the Department of Veterans Affairs where veterans law judges review appealed claims decisions, either on the existing record, with new evidence or after a hearing.
Example: My BVA hearing was held by video with a veterans law judge.
Usage notes
The Appeals Modernization Act of 2017, effective in 2019, created three review options: higher-level review, supplemental claim and a Board appeal. Board decisions can be appealed further to the US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Wait times have long been a source of complaints.
